Seniors 60 and older on Sept. 20 can get their fill of lions
and tigers and bears, when the Seneca Park Zoo will offer free admission to
Rochester’s elderly population.
“I look forward to welcoming our community’s seniors to a
free day at one of Monroe County’s finest attractions, our Seneca Park Zoo,”
Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo said in a statement. “Our community is
so enriched by our elder population—Monroe County is stronger because of them.
It is important to take opportunities to thank our seniors when we can, and
this free event at the zoo is the perfect opportunity to do so.”
Senior Day will include free admission for anyone 60 or
older and their spouse, regardless of age, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A $5 box
lunch will be provided to anyone who pre-registers for the event.
Visitors also can enjoy free tram service and live music
during their time at the zoo. The park will stay open until 5 p.m.
Seneca Park Zoo is a 20-acre park in northern Rochester that
is operated by the Seneca Park Zoo Society and Monroe County. Pamela Reed
Sanchez leads the Zoo Society. Among its numerous displays, the zoo has four
female elephants, three adult African lions, a thriving colony of African
penguins, two red pandas, a spotted Hyena and more.
